3)A special moment you enjoyed with your family

My family and I just had dinner at Suntec City after watching a movie. On our way home, we saw an advertisement about the upcoming 2010 Formula 1 competition that will take place in Singapore in September. The insatant we saw the advertisement, the moment which we enjoyed as a family flashed through my mind...
My baby sister was crying as the cars raced pass us with blaring engines that frightened her . I was mesmerised by the cars racing past me at the speed of light one at a time.
It was the formula one race 2009. I fixed my eyes on my favourite racer whom almost everyone love, Mr Louis as he made many attempts to overtake the driver who was first in place then, Jenson Button. Hamilton was probaably the most favoured driver in Singapore, almost giving him a home ground advantage.

I have been a fan of Mr Lewis Hamilton, hoping to grow up and get a job as exciting as his. In my opinion, racing in formula one is probably one of the best, coolest, most entertaining job in the world especially when one drives a vehicle as agile as the ones in formula one.

I had probably one of the best seats as my mother won enough limited edition pass that not only gave us backstage passes to meet the racers but also give us the best seats along the whole racing path.

When my mother first returned home, she was on cloud nine. The first thing she announced that she was given sufficient tickets with backstage passes for everyone in our family. All of us were so happy that we felt that we were as lucky as a lark. My mother, a captain in RBS, short for the Royal Bank of Scotland, was a sponsor Williams which include racer, Nico hulkenberg, therefore for aiding greatly in achieving one of its biggest goals.

Since Mr Louis Hamilton's first race in Singapore in year 2008, I was stunned by his amazing skills and his ability to turn the tables against his opponent, to have a sudden improve in skills, allowing him to overtake and defeat his opponents easily. Before formula one was held in Singapore, I never had much interest in it. The only racer I knew was Michael Shumacher and that he was an exccellent racer. Mr Lewis Hamilton, was the first driver who left a deep impression when I witnessed his first race in singapore on televison. In my opinion, he was the best driver back in 2008 and has imrpoved so far.

At the final lap, Mr Hamilton was third in position, Jenson Button was still first in position with Michael Schumacher not far behind. However, what I believed to be a sudden increase in momentum by the screaming Singaporean fans and an adreanaline rush aided Mr Hamilton to overtake the legendary Michael Schumacher and probably only a metre behind Mr Button.

At the final moment of the race, Mr Hamilton was as quick as Mr Button as the both of them raced side by side, taking turns to gain the lead. However, Mr Hamilton outshined Mr button at the final drift as he did perfect drift and overtook Mr Button leaving Mr Button in shock as he attempted to regain his lead.
Mr Hamilton succeeds once again.

He defeated Mr Buttons as he jumped out of his McLaren and jumped with joy. My family together with almost everyone in Singapore rejoiced as joined in Mr Hamilton's well deserved celebration.

I will never forget that moment when my family and I witnessed Mr Hamilton's memorable, unexpected victory despite of starting as the last. Once again, Mr hamilton left the world in shock and awe.

1)Something unusual that happened that day

I bade farewell to my new and old long lost friends. We are bonded together by a common interest, a interest not many in the Singapore have or even care about. We are bonded by cosplay.

It all started when I was making my way to my friend's home to do project work after a meal with my family at Parkway. As I left the restaurant, I stared at a bunch of friends in fancy costumes of many cartoon characters. Some of them include Naruto, Spongebob and many more. Many people merely glanced at them while almost all the children stood dumbfounded, some younger children feeling afraid and were crying. This bunch of people seemed like close friends as they were chatting and laughing like a family.

My initial impression of this bunch of people were a bunch of hippies dressed in their favourite cartoon characters. I also thought that they were attention seekers, trying to entertain the public and trying to grab attention. I felt weird , thinking that they were simply wasting their lives away, wasting time dressing up as characters.

Curiosity killed the cat - being inquisitive about other people's affairs may get you into trouble. However, I beg to differ as today, curiosity has opened up another chapter to my life. As I wanted to know more about the bunch of "hippies" and probably learn more what are their motivations and what cause them to behave like hippies.

I never knew that Singapore has such a culture.

What I discovered was that all of them were close friends with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. What I saw next gave me the biggeset shock in a long time. My ex-classmate, Jerald, who was like a class gangster when we were in the same class during primary school was also participating in cosplay. In fact, the group of 'hippies' who I followed were Jerald's friends.

"How are you doing? Which secondary school are you in now? I never knew you like dressing up?" I asked the instant I spotted him.

We caught up with one another's lives. Surprisingly, Jerald was no longer the gangster I knew. In fact, he was more gentlemanly than I. Apparently, after doing badly for his PSLE two years ago, Jerald received the wake up call and has started to improve his attitude and work hard in his studies. Jerald's friends were all gentlemen too, unlike that of Jerald's 'ex-brothers'.

While chatting with Jerald, he also thought me a few facts about cosplay. I learnt that cosplay, short for costume play, originated from Japan. Cosplay is a performance art in which pariticipants dress up as characters with accessories. Cosplay is so famous that people all over the world practises it. Despite its roots coming from Japan, cosplay is being practised all over the world today. Jerald also taught me some basic rules of cosplay. One of which is that no outfits that are too revealing or any signs of any indecent exposure are permitted.

Cosplay caught my attention. Fortunately, Jerald had an extra costume. I was ecstatic as I changed into the Naruto costume.

Next, we had fun in Parkway Parade in our unique costumes. We went to the arcade, went shopping and had dinner together. What caused discomfort to me was everyone looking at us, some, even stared at our outlandish costumes. Despite the publicity, we really have a great time.

As the saying goes, time flies when one has fun. Before we knew it, it was already eight at night. I bade farewell to my new friends and Jerald, although we are not in the same school or tuition class ,we will keep in contact with one another. I learnt about cosplay today. Cosplay not only entertained me, cosplay reunited my long lost friend and it also enable me to make new friends.

4)Something that took place in school

Yesterday's assembly was not like any other.
When we were first told to assemble in the hall, I knew that today's assembly will be extraordinary as we only assemble in the hall on Monday's for the singing of the National Anthem and on Fridays for prize presentations for any medals won throughout the week. What stunned me again was two chairs placed exactly in the middle of the hall.

The discipline master, Mr Tan was exceptionally frustrated, shouting at everyone who he caught with unacceptable attire or was strolling into the hall instantaneously at the sight of them. The principal, Leong, was furious as he stormed into the hall with his arms akimbo and furrowed eyebrows that hinted anger. The teachers had mixed emotions, some showing fear, their faces a frozen in a glassy stare of horror.Almost all the students knew that something was wrong.

Not wanting any trouble, all the students read their books like angels sent from heaven, maintaining deadly silence throughout the whole five minutes of silent reading unlike other days in which many people will be busy chatting with their friends.
After singing the national anthem and reciting the pledge, all the students sat down and maintained the solemn mood. Mr Leong got onto the stage with bloodshot eyes, his face like a volcano filled with burning lava, along with Mr Tan beside him with clenched fists and a senior wearing long dirty pants, ankle socks, with untucked shirt and unacceptably long hair.

The second we sat down, Mr Leong skipped the formalities of greeting us and talked about honesty, "How many times must I say the four things that Victorians never commit. DON'T BULLY, DON'T CHEAT, DON'T LIE, DON'T STEAL. Despite the number of times the teachers and I have reminded you not to disobey us, none of you listen. This student, Jerry Lim of class 4F has broken countless school rules by stealing, cheating during exams and beating up other students! Although he was given many chances he did not improve in spite of constantly promising to do so! I will therefore punish him by twenty strokes of the cane, and suspension from school until further notification! If he does not change after he returns I will expel him. Everytime I cane a Victorian I will always tell myself that this will be my last. I hate caning students but will if forced to."

In a heartbeat, he took the cane from a table backstage while the Mr Tan commanded him to kneel down with his face facing the students with both elbows on the chair. Then, Mr Leong using all his strength stormed up by his anger, used the cane and hit him time after time again, each time with a face filled with pain, anguish, suffering and regret.

However, after Jerry got up from the caning, he pointed the middle finger to Mr Leong and sweared at him. Leaving the whole school dumbfounded with dropped jaws.

What surprised me today was how rebellious that student was. When I first entered Victoria School, I knew that I was below average and believed that I was possibly one of the worst in the school. What stunned me was why there were people constantly getting into detention and into trouble. Why is that so? Almost everyday, I can find people doing detention for not doing homework, disrupting the class, playing truant, fighting and rude to the staff in the school.

Why is that so that people have this impression in their minds that Victoria School is a great education institution? Why is it so that many parents are so enthusiastic to get their sons into this school in spite of the number of Victorians getting into trouble daily? I simply cannot reconcile.

I hope that Victoria School will improve and be the perfect school that the public believe in to educate future leaders of Singapore.

2)A problem I faced and solved

I am gaining back what I have lost control over myself.

I finally passed a test! I have failed all tests and have failed to submit almost all of my homework on time since the start of the year. I was facing a common problem that many teenagers of my age face. This problem has taken the lives of many due to lack of sleep, food, water and sometimes due to insanity.

The problem that I faced is severe addiction to computer games. Many people all over the world face this similar problem. However, many people who face this problem are either unaware that they are addicted or they can't be bordered to confront the problem. The problems arising from addiction is much worse than what many people think.

Many teenagers avoid the reality that they are addicted. Some do not have the family support to tackle the addiction problem as their parents are working long hours and do not have the time to teach their children on how to cope with this problem. Being an ex- computer addict myself, I understand the pain of other addicts who are making unsuccessful attempts to tackle the addiction problem.

Despite the countless number of times my mother reprimanded me for repeatedly not submitting homework on time and failing my class tests . Now that I have successfully got rid of my addiction, I am reflecting on how my addiction began and how it became deadly serious and how it came to a end before any disasters occur. This is also a warning to addicts to break the addiction before its too late and a message to people who are not yet addicted to limit their time spent on the computere for leisure and entertainment., Trust me addiction to computer games can be deadly..

My addiction first started when my best friend, Sean, introduced me to this online third person action game that was nothing shorter than excellent with extraordinary 3D graphics and special effects. The game was none other than one of the most famous game in the world, Dota. Another reason why I played this game was due to peer pressure. Almost all my friends played Dota. Being the only one who did not made me feel left out and like an outcast. Dota was like the most coolest thing. So many people play this game. Play or if you do not play, then you will be a loser in life with little or no friends.

As the end of the year examination was just over, my parents were busy working and paid little attention as to whether if I am devoting too much time to the computer. I played Dota , I started to play Dota the second I arrive home. I skipped lunch and did not shower until I was about to sleep at two in the morning. When I first started playing, I was bored, annoyed and frustrated. I was inexperienced or what people like to describe me as "A Noob".

However, the more I played , the better I became. The game seemed to become more intersting and captivating . I play till two am in the morning even if I have to attend school the following day. I lived on fast food and potato chips to save time and to enable me to play more. I was gaining weight and only bathed once a daybefore school. I never cleaned my room. I never join my family for outings and social gatherings. Last but not least, I feel depressed when not playing Dota.

When my mother discovered my addiction, she tried her best to stop me from playing . However, I was rebellious , rude and threw my temper at my mother . She constantly scolded me and threatened me by taking away the keyboard. It was of no use as I bought another keyboard to continue playing.

Soon, the school term began and I knew that I was going to be in trouble. Not only have I not done any work throughout the entire holiday, I could barely remember what I learnt last year. Over the first week of school, I had difficulties focusing during all lessons including my strongest subject, Mathematics and English. I could not help but play Dota the second I arrive home everyday.

I had to sleep at one in the morning everyday due to me playing in the afternoon and only panicking at the last moment every night. After failing my first Chinese spelling, my first science and my first mathematics tests during the second week of school, I knew that the time of change has came.

The moment I arrived home, I locked myself up away from the computer and tried to do my work. Despite the agonising pain I underwent due to temptation to switch on the computer. All that flowed through my mind was, " Just a moment can't kill". However, I was more determined than ever to retry the day after.

The next day, I locked myself in another room away from the computer and did my homework. Fortunately, I managed to control myself from playing Dota and completed my homework
Since the ending of the second week of school, I have stopped playing in the weekdays and intend to only play two hours during the weekend. I feel proud that I have solved and overcamed a global problem that have been causing misery to numerous people in the world today.

5)A moment that I enjoyed alone

My hobby is what defines me.

My hobby started when I was in lower primary by my good Japanese friend, Nobu, who received Primary education with me before flying back to Japan at the end of primary six.

My hobby is none other than the art of folding paper origami of animals. This hobby has been part of my life since first introduced to me by Nobu. When Nobu first taught me paper origami, I was addicted to it like a drug addict to heroin. I could not stop.

However, what reminded me of the life changing moment in Primary two was when I flipped my photo album this afternoon out of boredom. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I recalled the fun I had with Nobu and the diversity of origami animals that we folded together when I stared at the pictures of us and our origami. Although that life changing moment happened many years ago, I can still remember what exactly happened as if it just occured today. I cherished the moment of joy when I folded my first origami without Nobu's aid.

It was another ordinary boring day at school. I stared at the teacher with a blank mind as I started to daydream, imagining the teacher as an old naggy grandmother. Nobu, seating beside me then, was as bored as I was. I started off our conversation with an insult to the teacher. Nobu giggled before joining me in insulting the teacher.

Soon, we started to chat with each other about Japan's culture before unknowingly drifting to the topic of origami. His words sparked an interest in origami. Noticing my interest, he folded a origami sea gull as a gift for me.

I attempted to trace Nobu's hand movements in order to refold the sea gull. As I had expected, all my attempts to fold a sea gull was a failure. However, the beauty of Nobu's origami sea gull inspired me to persevere and attempt to fold the sea gull again. Although Nobu constantly offered his help, I declined it, feeling determined to fold a sea gulll by myself without any aid from Nobu.

After school, I was still unsuccessful. I continued trying to fold the the sea gull but still to no avail. However, I managed to fold my first paper gull successfully at the end of the day.

I felt as happy as a lark as I jumped for joy, feeling a sense of accomplishment, pride and happiness. Although my sea gull was not as beautiful as Nobu's, I boasted to all my family and friends of my achievement.

That life changing moment made me more determined than ever to successfully fold more paper origamis. Since then, Nobu and I spents hours together folding more paper origamis. We also participated in paper origami folding competitions to see who was better and more agile in origami folding.

Unfortunately, Nobu returned to Japan after his PSLE. We bade farewell to one another and both cried uncontrollably . Nobu and I did not contact each other much after he arrived in Japan despite all the promises and plans we made to constantly contact each other. What brought us further apart was the starting of my hectic Sencondary school life.

I will always remember the life changing moment when I folded my first ever paper origami alone. I will always remember Nobu for he has made a big impact in my life, bringing entertainment and joy to my life.

Day two with Alan to the top

Dear Diary,

I am tired. My wife misses me but I will continue doing my job.

I have probably one of the hardest jobs in the world. I deliver fuel to this lodge called "The Top". 10 times a year, I have to travel two thousand miles to The Top. To make things worse, not much of the journey is on paved roads. I have to constantly drive through jungle rivers, shovel my truch out of mud holes and expose myself to danger I get off my truck, bringing the risk of being attacked by animals.

Today, Alan and I went for lunch at one of my favourite restaurants in which I was such a regular that I was treated like a king. The chef Feral Cheryl fires up an American style breakfast. However, what ruined my breakfast was Alan asking me if I enjoyed my job. He then starts to give advice like hiring a assistant.

What annoys me every trip reappeared today to dry whats left of my little patience. The hot wind decided to return and drive red dust into the air. The air thens collect on my sunglasses, my lips and my eyes. Due to the irritation of my eye I was unable to concentrate and entered a section of rocks too fast. We both slammed against the ceiling upon impact. I can swear that Alan cursed when our heads hit the ceiling.

What cheered us up was when I was covered up with diesel and dirt after refilling the truck with fuel as the both at us laughed at my bad luck.

However, as I had predicted, my bad luck soon returned. When we arrived at The Jardine, Ben left although I beeped my horn in order to catch his attention. We will now have to wait till tomorrow morning before being able to cross The Jardine as Ben only returns tomorrow morning.

Thats all for now.

Signing off,

Garry

My real first post

Hello everybody this is my first real post as my previous so called first post is actually for the use of the previewing of templates. This blog is created for my English project which is of vital importance to me so i will be using proper english. Due to some unknown XML problem that i'm facing, I am unable to create a blogskin. So I am sorry that you have to live with this skin anyway as it is probably the best available for use.
Since this is my first post, I should introduce myself and my opinion on a few global issues. I am Dennis, a boy from singapore. For all non Singapreans, Singapore is not part of China. Most foreigners I speak to assume that Singapore is part of China.
After they hear that I am from Singapore, most of them say "Is that in China?"
This may not seem like an issue to many other Singaporeans but it is beginning to annoy me. We Singaporeans deserve our own pride. We are really quite distinguishable from the China Chinese. We have our own differences although China is an awesome place, I hope that this misunderstanding end and the stereotyping of Singaporeans also come to an end.
I apologise for not being able to post any videos or sound clips because i have no clue as to what to post.

This ends my first post.
Thanks
